The Most Beautiful Thing I've Ever Heard

I was watching Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day this morning and heard the best line I've ever heard in a film. It's a cute movie about one day for a very poor woman in England just as the war is breaking out. She's had a very bad day - just been kicked out of her apartment with no clothes or effects and has not eating in several days. During an air raid drill a young woman Miss Pettigrew has just met that morning and is trying to help with her seriously bad taste in men is scared and asks her if she's ever been in love. She says
'He died in the mud in France. He was a steady man, a good man - the type you would call boring. But he smiled when he saw me and we could have built a life on that.'

I could type forever about how stupid I think people are when it comes to love - how dumb it is to always be looking for the 'perfect' person or for someone better. But I will try, very hard, to stop typing now, becuase that's perfect as it is.

He smiled when he saw me and we could have built a life on that.
